Those last minute decisions...

Have you ever made a last minute decision that suddenly turned out to make a big difference in how your day went? One morning a few weeks ago, I was heading out the door for a job interview for a second part-time job. At the last minute I stopped and hurried back to my computer, remembering I'd wanted to send some writer friends an email reminder about an upcoming lunch date.

While I was quickly typing out that email, I suddenly heard a loud racket right outside my living room window. I couldn't figure out what on earth I was hearing, and when I looked out was surprised and dismayed to see several large branches falling from one of the old maple trees in our front yard. It had been windy the night before but the wind had died down some, so it seemed strange for the branches to suddenly break. What was even more unsettling, the branches now lay in the driveway, right in front of my van. Nuts, what was I going to do?

I finished sending off my email, grabbed up my purse and keys and ran out to figure out how I was going to get to the interview. While they really didn't appear to be very large branches, in truth they were pretty heavy, and I had a less than fun time moving them. But I did manage to get them out of the way and was able to make my interview on time. Of course the writer in me always has to wonder, what if? What if I hadn't stopped to send that email? What if instead I'd been in my van, driving out just as those branches were falling? Instead of going to my job interview, I might have been calling the insurance company to report damage to my van (which is 9 years old but is also paid up, and which I intend to keep driving for a few more years). I might not have made the interview on time and lost the chance to make some extra money to help pay for my trip to Washington DC this summer.

But as it turned out, my angel was watching out for me that morning. The worst thing that happened was I had to move the branches out of the driveway, and I wasn't even late for the interview. So, sometimes those last minute little decisions can make a big difference.

And oh yes, by the way, I got the job!

Congratulations on getting the job! did you happen to think maybe those branches would have landed on you...sounds like God's hand was covering you!

I know I have had moments like that, but I can't think of any in particular at the moment. But I try to thank God for the little nudges He gives along the way.

Congrats that you got the job! And, yes, most definitly your guardian angel was watching over you. Great blog, Lucy. :-) God bless!!! (actually, it seems he already has - but that's a given! LOL!)
PS - IMVHO there's no such thing as coincidence. Everything we experience is God working in and through us.

Lucy, what an experience! You are so right. God was watching out for you. He nudged you to take time to send the emails.

Thanks for posting this. It reminds us that God is still alive and well, and he gives His angels charge over us.

Which also means that God has a purpose for you.

I have a similar incident several years ago where I was trying to outrun a tornado in my car. It was probably a 100 yards away in a field to my left. I could not tell if it was coming toward me or moving parallel to the car. So I kept driving. The only problem was about a half-mile ahead, I had to turn the curve, to the left, and suddenly everything around me turned a deep indigo. I drove on the a low spot and parked the car a few minutes before I cranked up to continue home.

The next day, my husband drove through where I had been. The very spot where everything had turned dark, the room on the house was torn off, and on the other side of the road a path of trees were mown down for 5 yards or so.

All I could think of was, "God really loves me! He loves ME!" Every time I pass that spot now, I get the warm fuzzies to think that God loved me enough to spare me from that. The tornado must have hit the corner of that house, raised up over my car, then come back down to rip all those trees up.

So, don't take it lightly, girlfriend. God has a purpose for your life, and He loves YOU.

Hugs!

Thanks for the great comments. It's strange, but I really didn't think too much about what happened at the time. I guess I was in too much of a hurry to make that interview! But later, when I realized that yes, those branches could have fallen on me, I was a little shaky. But thank God, He was there! And I don't really believe in coincidence either. Everything happens for a purpose.

Hi Lucy~I just found your blog and have enjoyed reading through it!

Yes, I believe that God was watching out for you. I believe that everything that happens to us is for a reason, and He was there protecting you from harm!

I loved the post about your mom. She was an amazing woman!

Hey, Lucy, just stepping in to say how much I enjoyed our smaller chat last night. I think I got more out of that than the larger one. Cheers. I like your blog BTW.
